Union Bouquet #3

Bajillion gets it right.

Walt ponders joining a community college teacher's union and the morality of striking.

For those of you who want the 3 paragraph summary of teacher's unions (and it's uh, really impartial) check out Bald Marcel. Er, Marcel is Bald. Yeah, that's it.

SAH Mom makes a convincing argument for homeschooling and against the NEA...but then I snapped out of it and realized she was wrong. :)

Matt compares teacher's unions to Bar Associations and contemplates suing teachers for educational malpractice.

Union caucus in effect, yo.

This is what happens when you don't have a union.

Detroit Strike

As of this writing, Detroit Public Schools are on strike. Here is the conservative view of the strike, and I almost found where the reporter mentioned that the union members were godless communistic evil people.

Dr. Rich Gibson of SDSU and his own Rouge Forum waxes politically correct about the ills that have befallen DPS and Detroit as a whole.

Now the latest is that the Detroit teachers have been ordered back into the classroom by a Judge. The most surprising thing is that I actually agree with what the EdWonks have to say about the overall outcome.

"Stupid In America"

Reruns Coach Brown weighs in on the latest John Stossel special rerun, "Stupid in America" and shows no love for his state or national affiliate, but reps his set for his local, yo.

Chanman of Buckhorn Road Blog savages NYC's very own Randi Weingarten in the Stossel special.

Let it be known that I am in favor of the concept of public education, and was once a teacher, so I know it isn't easy and will never make you rich (though administration may be another story).

In addition, "Stupid in America" was frought with errors. My main point is that, given the fact they need to get it fixed during my children's educational years, I choose to abstain. I still pay my hefty taxes, however, for schools they don't attend.

Admire your blog, good writing, but I think we'll agree to disagree on just this one teeny point...

Thank your for the comments. Let's agree to disagree. Perhaps we can do some head to head type writing thingy at some point.

You mean like the old SNL? Do I get to be "Jane you ignorant slut!" ???

I was thinking more along the lines of the now defucnt Jimmy Fallon/ Tina Fey combo. I do like the old a point.
